Professor Dr. John Dumay

We are honored to welcome Professor John Dumay as the keynote speaker for our upcoming conference. Professor Dumay is a distinguished academic in the field of accounting and finance, currently serving at Macquarie University in Sydney. Before transitioning to academia, he amassed over 15 years of experience as an independent business consultant across various industries. In 2008, he earned his PhD with a thesis titled "Intellectual Capital in Action: Australian Studies," which was awarded the prestigious Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Award in the Knowledge Management category.

Professor Dumay's research interests encompass intellectual capital, non-financial accounting and reporting, innovation, modern slavery, qualitative research methods, and academic writing. He has an impressive publication record, authoring or co-authoring over 120 peer-reviewed academic journal articles in esteemed journals such as the Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, The British Accounting Review, Journal of Intellectual Capital, Public Management Review, Financial Accountability and Management, and The Journal of Business Ethics. His collaborative work spans multiple countries, including Australia, Italy, Sweden, the USA, Canada, Russia, and China.

Professor Dumay's exceptional contributions to research have earned him numerous prestigious publication awards, including:

  • Highly Commended Paper awards from the Journal of Intellectual Capital (2008, 2013, 2014, 2015), Journal of Accounting and Organizational Change (2014, 2016), Journal of Knowledge Management (2016), and Meditari Accountancy Research (2019).
  • Outstanding Paper awards from the Journal of Intellectual Capital (2018) and Meditari Accountancy Research (2021).
  • Emerald Citations of Excellence for his influential papers in the British Accounting Review (2015, for a paper published in 2012) and the Journal of Intellectual Capital (2016, for a paper published in 2013).
  • Outstanding Reviewer accolades from VINE Journal (2013), Journal of Accounting and Organizational Change (2015), and Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal (2016).

In recognition of his significant contributions to the field, Professor Dumay has been acknowledged as one of the world's top 2% of scientists for 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and over his lifetime by Elsevier and Stanford University. Additionally, The Australian newspaper has recognized him as Australia's Top Researcher in Accounting & Taxation for 2020, 2022, and 2023.

Professor Dumay plays influential roles in academia as the Associate Editor of the Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal and Meditari Accountancy Research. He also serves as the Deputy Editor for the Accounting & Finance journal.
